Where do you find your inspiration to craft with your kids? I find mine in whatever my kids are interested in doing that day. In fact, I let them advice me on the day’s activities on a daily basis.

Today, my toddler came to me with a book and told me she wanted to make this fish.

fish book hearts craft inspiration I was working at my desk and in front of me were a few crepe paper hearts that I had cut for a project. I was thinking ‘Mother’s Day’. It looked like she had better ideas! She pointed to the hearts and said that she wanted to make a fish out of them. Umm… okay. Here is what I came up with. What’s more fun is that we used a cereal box! hearts Fish toddler craft She loves it! We call it our heart fish. We are still waiting for her brother to come home and draw a sea of love for the fish to swim in but in the meanwhile, here is how to make this pretty fish. Wouldn’t it be a lovely idea for a gift? I am waiting for my son to come home and fancy it up. I wonder what he will say…

How to Make a Fish Craft Using Crepe Paper Hearts

What you need:

  • Cardboard or cereal box
  • Crepe paper
  • Googly eyes -1
  • Glue stick

Preparation:

Since you are working with a toddler, make and keep all cut up pieces ready before you invite them to make the craft. We used a cereal box to cut the outline of a fish. I made five hearts in different sizes for the fins and tail. All these were placed in a tray along with the googly eye and glue stick. Explain what you are doing to your toddler.

How to make.

Keep the fish wrong side up. Help you child glue the tail and side fins in place. Turn the fish over and glue the rest the remaining fin. Glue the googly eye in place. Done. There you have it: A fun activity to make a Crepe Paper Hearts Fish. You can stick it on a bigger paper and draw some water or an aquarium scene with it or you can thread some yarn through it and hang it up. we are waiting for Big Brother to come home and fancy it up.
