Looking for Quilting Supplies in Jeddah
I love quilting from a very young age. My first memories of quilts were traditional, hand-quilted quilts used around the house. They were made by ladies in villages of Sindh, Pakistan. Those quilts always fascinated me.
After my second baby was born, I came across a Puff Quilt on Pinterest and made one for him. Every time I step on it, it comforts me and fills me with warmth.
When I moved to Jeddah, I did not know where to buy fabric to make that quilt. I bought a sewing machine and some threads, but could not find any fabric shops. I eventually improvised by buying a pack of pillowcases. I cut those up and made squares for my quilt.
People often ask me where to find fabrics, sewing machines or other sewing materials in Jeddah. I have written about Where to Buy Sewing Supplies in Jeddah on my blog but this post is particularly about Quilting supplies.

Where to find Sewing Machines in Jeddah
1. Dhahab Street in Bab Makkah
Did you know that there is a whole street of Sewing Machine shops in Bab Makkah called Dhahab Street?
Yes. You can find all the well-known brands like Brother, Juki, Janome and Singer there, as well as others. You’d be spoilt for choice.
Of course, buying sewing machines depends on your budget and requirements. You can also find good professional quality tailoring scissors, sewing machine feet and other parts.

(Update January 2022: Unfortunately, due to the Jeddah Renovation Project, this area may have been demolished. We’ll update you about the new location as soon as we find out!)
2. Carrefour and HyperLulu
Some supermarkets like Carrefour, Lulu sell basic sewing machines too.
These are just one or two pieces and sometimes at a reduced price on offer but my advice would be that you check out the market on Dhahab street because they are the real authorized dealers of those brands and offer repairs as well.
3. King Fahd Street just off the Sitteen Bridge over Falasteen Street
There is a big showroom of sewing machines just by the Marriott. I’ve never been in there but I have seen the shop.
4. On the way to Ballad on Abu Baker Street – Baghdadiyyah
Recently I found some sewing machine shops like the ones on Dahb street near the sport shops on Abu Baker As Siddiqu Road (the road that runs opposite of Madinah Road) It is on the main road and has all the different brands.

Places to Buy Quilting Fabric and batting in Jeddah
So you have your precious Sewing Machine. Next you would need fabric…
There are different kinds of fabric that are sold in different places around Jeddah.
1. Souq ash Sharq – Makarona Bridal Market
For quilting, the best place I have found is Souq Sharq.
This place is known for abayas and fancy/bridal fabric shops. I LOVE this place! I have been buying all my fabrics from here ever since I discovered them about 2 years ago.
There are two shops I buy from frequently. They are on the either side of Gate 7. They have good selection of lightweight, medium-weight cotton fabrics in plain and prints.

2. Al Ghuthmi
The main branch is on Tahliya street. They basically have upholstery, curtain and sheets but if you are a seasoned quilter, and like to experiment with cloth, this is every quilter’s paradise.
They have different weights and textures of fabric from cotton, linen, wool and silk to higher. It is a HUGE shop and you may be able to find some batting too.
They have many showrooms around town. One on Tahliya, Hira Street and Souq Bawadi too.
3. Tamer Tamara.
Aysh wrote about this shop in detail here. This shop has quilting fabric too.
4. Debbie’s Quilting Studio
Aysh mentions Debbie and her studio in this post.
(Update Jan 2022: This place no longer exists. Possibly moved. If you know where, please let us know!)
5. Harraj – in industrial area
This huge market which was once known for just used items of all sorts has now become a place to get anything and everything. There are some big shops that sell upholstery, curtains, sheets and dress material. They have everything from china to more expensive material.
This place is located in the Industrial Area. You have to take the exit from Television Street off King Fahad Bridge.
(Update Jan 2022: Possibly gone too. Goodness! )
6. Balad
Recently I visited a fabric shops in Balad. They carry almost all kinds of fabrics like cotton, abaya clothes, fancy and bridal too.

These people have a fabric and sewing material shops in Souq Sharq. They have almost everything in every color and type.
From long zippers, embroidery threads, buttons, elastics and well… what not! Do not forget to go to their upper floor section and be bedazzled!!!

2. Hindawiyah
A dreamland for knitters, crocheters, seamstress and crafters!
Hindawiyah is a wholesale market. You can find each and everything in bulk and retail like sewing tools, notions, trims, threads, stabilizers/interlining, buttons, quilt batting and what not. You name it, they have it! Some of the stores are on Instagram too, so you can buy from them online.
It is a huge area so be sure to look around and ask. They are very helpful. Alize, Yarn Store, Al Amoudi, Khyyat are some places I frequent.
I only go to Hindawiyah when my list of sewing supplies shopping is loooong. As it is a wholesale market, the prices are relatively cheaper than other places in Jeddah.
A note about parking in Hindawiyyah : These days that area only offers paid parking, so you can find parking easily. Just make sure you have coins! Afew years ago it was very difficult. We would go there after months of waiting and excitement only to make rounds of the market because we couldn’t find a parking spot! I am sure you know how disappointing it is to come back home all furious and crying!
3. Sahafa Street, Rehab
My go-to shop to buy threads, zippers, button, laces, trims and ribbons is a small yet jam-packet shop on Sahafa Street, named Al Aada for Tailoring Materials. They even sell knit and crochet stuff. They have few fabrics like lining, felt and net/tulle too.

Other Places where you can find Quilting Supplies in Jeddah
There are some stores with dedicated Sewing Material space, even though small but you can find basic sewing materials from there. Like
- Jarir Bookstore – check their craft section downstairs as well as upstairs where they have school stationary.
- Lulu Hypermarkets – there is a stationary and crafts section.
- IKEA – the upholstery section is where I’d look.
- Bravo Int’l Store – their art and crafts sections
- Bawadi Dandy Stationary – their top floor is dedicated to art and crafts.
- Eshraqat al Fan – This shop is an art and craft store.
I hope you find this post helpful.
