Half a Cup of Tea
There is a reason the sun comes up late in winter. Have you ever given it a thought? The sun rises early in summers but winters are lazy mornings. God knows us well, I say. It is too cold to get up at 5am when it’s freezing cold but too hot to sleep-in in summers, don’t you agree?
I have half a cup of tea at 10am every morning. 10am, because any later and my baby will not sleep through the night. (I BF her.) Anything earlier than that and I will have fallen asleep before 9pm. That, is all I need to get me through the day: just half a cup of tea.
A few days ago, I did a stupid thing. I woke up at 4am and then I did not go back to sleep. Any thoughtful person would have, but me, I have my mommy brain controlling me these days. The only thing my Mommy Brain wants, is more time in a day. Can you imagine what must have happened? Yes… and while you are imagining it, can you please add to that that I went out early in the day and that where I had to go had the lift broken and I had to climb four floors to get to a waiting line that was spilling out the door and then waited half an hour more to get a clerk to look at my papers… And back home at the other end of the city?
Then, in all the sleepiness and chaos, I forgot to have that half cup at 10am. The rest of the day, I couldn’t because I didn’t want Cuppycake to be wide awake till 2am again. Also, I hadn’t eaten well. Never drink tea, or even coffee for that matter, on an empty stomach. It has a very damaging effect on your organs. Caffeine is a very powerful thing. Infact, it is a drug. I have been preaching that to my family for a long time but… we all love our cuppa, don’t we? It can help you in elivating your mood, increasing your heart rate or it can fool your brain.
By the way, I classify tea and coffee drinkers into three types.
- The Passionate, who drink it as an art.
- The Hobbyist, who drink because there isn’t anything else to drink.
- The Addict, who must have his/her tea or will kill the next person they see. (Yes, these exist, I have met quite a few.)
I am a passionate tea drinker. It has to be made with all the tradition and passion of making it perfect. The aroma, the taste, the colour, it has to be perfect. If it isn’t creamy enough, I will throw it and my whole day will be spent sulking. If there is a little more sweetness or a little less, it will be left as it is. Only, one among my two sisters gets it right and I haven’t taught my hubby to make it. We don’t want any kind of tension between us. So, what prompted me to tell you what kind of tea I like? I am trying to analyse where the psychological link in my half cup of tea addiction lies. Umm… I think, it’s the ‘passion’ part… or is it the ‘energy’ part? I am not sure. Let me talk a little more.
As I was saying, then what happened through the day was really silly. I fell asleep feeding the baby. I fell asleep reading to my daughter. I fell asleep while hubby was telling me about ‘I-don’t -really-remember-what’. And… I was sent to bed early, at 8pm to be exact. (Hubby is the only person in our house who has veto power. He is the only ‘grown up’ in our house, you see.)
This whole story was repeated again yesterday. Only thing, this time Cuppy made sure I didn’t go to bed till midnight. I had forgotten my tea the day before yesterday too and again today. I think it is quickly becoming a habit. I forget my tea… I fall asleep here and there and wake up shocked that I slept while the kids were wide awake and unsupervised.
Did I mention that the caffeine in your tea fools your brain? It tricks your brain into thinking that your not sleepy and not tired.
That makes sense! But..
Oh No!! I am addicted to my half cup of tea!
Moral of the story: Never get up at 4am if you have a baby, a toddler and a little big kid. And… Never under-estimate the power of half a cup of tea. And, the most important lesson: Never write a blog post when you have not had your cuppa (tea or coffee).
Have you had your cup of tea/coffee yet? 🙂
