Chinese Knots again
Before this post becomes a backlog again, let me quickly jot down all the stuff I wanted to tell you about Chinese Knots.
As I mentioned earlier, I have been interested in Chinese knots for a long time. I saved the above picture from a chinese photo album sometimes in 2006, I think. I didn’t know what it was called and I believed it was some form of macrame or may be tatting.
I have had interesting adventures in trying to find out about it and it went as far as getting my brother to go to China Town to get someone Chinese to make an account for me on 163.com (They were letting only registered users check their site!)
Anyway, years later, recently, I stumbled upon this:

And then I landed on Fusion Knots, a site by a J.D Lenzen. He has videos showing so many different kinds of knots (Chinese and Celtic). This guy has really amazed me by his skill. He makes all those knots on his fingers while even the most experts of those chinese ladies make them on cork boards! And… He makes it look all so easy. I learnt the Monkey’s Fist and Turk’s head on his site.
They say when there is a will there is a way. Alhamdulillah, when I am searching for something, I always find more stuff than I am looking for. I had taught myself to recognise a couple of words in Chinese while searching for such things and I love to google. Since I have too many links too post and it is going to take a lot of time and a very long post, I’ll just save my thoughts for later and post the links. I spent a lot of time searching this stuff and I really would have benefitted if someone had all this in one place. So for anyone who comes around looking, here it is:

There are a couple of videos here on how to make some more knots. It is in Chinese but …well, you dont have to know a language to see someone doing something. (P.S: Better to keep the sound on mute, I was hearing chinese for three days afterwards!)
