Preparing to Totschool- Week 1
It has been four years since I home-schooled my eldest. Now that school has started for her elder brother, our two year old is ready. I wanted to get her to start getting comfortable with books. This past week was our first week to preparation. I must admit though, that there is more preparation that I need to do than her because we have just moved to our new home and we are still getting used to it.
Last week, we started to ease back into our Back to School Routines. Son, started school again and the little girls got used to being not around him. Back to school means more work for me. I have to get back to waking up at 5am and son and hubby has to be out the door by 6.30am. The girls wake up at 7am. I also have to be prepared for what I will do with them once they are awake. Like all mums, I want my little ones to play by themselves and learn new things without being too dependant on me. I have found that the best way I can accomplish that, is by making various learning opportunities available to them. Sensory material, toys that help them develop the various skills that they need, healthy snacks, books that they can read by themselves too… things that don’t require me to be there with them 100% of the time. This makes it easy for me to work from home and do my chores too.
The first day, Lil’ One got up looking for her Dad and brother. I told her they were off to ‘work’. She said she wanted to go to work. I took the opportunity to tell her that she had so much work too! One week later, as I look back now, I see that she really got a lot done.
How did the week ago? Full of activity, actually.
We have been playing with dough everyday because that is what she wants. That is her safe ‘comfort play zone’ actually. Who am I to argue! Ever since we discovered our latest recipe… even the adults are addicted now!
There has been scribbling and I think she is getting good at making circles.

Some naughtiness too!
That has been more that has not been caught on camera! She loves to read and the kids’ bookshelf has been a mess. She will not stick to her own books at all. It has been that way always… ever since she was just a little crawling baby! How was your week with your little one? Tell me one activity that you love to do with your children.

I really like this post as I am starting to work with a two year old child. Thanks for these ideas! Carolyn
