September Blog Report
The best way to end a month is to go back and talk about what we accomplished the whole month. It is also the best way to make a come back after a hiatus!
September brought sadness in our lives this year. My father in law passed away on the 17th. We were unable to attend his funeral as we live in another country. It is every expats’ story… we arrived in India three days later… to sadness and grief. We have extended our stay and will be on vacation all through the next month too.
Do you know what bloggers really fear?
Vacations. There is so much planning and preparations that needs getting done before we can go offline. If you are a blogger and reading this, then I am sure you’d relate. If you are a non-blogger, let me give you a little peak into what my life has been like.
One moment, I am editing drafts and planning posts and the next moment my phone rang. I picked up on the second bell to hear my husband’s grief stricken voice telling me that his father had passed away. We had decided earlier that same morning, after hearing that he had been admitted to a hospital after a fall, that we would leave the very evening. He died before we could get to him. We couldn’t get on the flight that night and we never got to say good bye to him. We couldn’t even attend the funeral.
It hurt… we cried… we miss him… but life has to go on. Those who have to go will go. We cannot stand at the moment forever. We grieve that he never got to see his youngest grand child our little CuppyCake. There is nothing we can do.
Moving on now to the vacation, this is the first time I have travelled since I turned to proffessional blogging. There is so much I should have done and prepared for because everything has caught me off guard. The past few weeks before we came here, I had been pretty lazy and had been publishing off all my ‘rainy day’ stuff. When we hit an emergency and moved, I found myself caught off guard. No posts. No schedules. No marketing. Ouch!
I did manage some facebook and pinterest scheduling but everywhere else I am on a vacation. My kids have been sick as the weather has changed. We arrived from hot humid summer to rainy damp monsoons!
I had decided to do away with my blog reports for some reason but then… I found that blog reports are my connection to my readers telling them about where this blog is going. Every month some of you read this to get a peak into what happened behind the scenes. So… we are still doing blog reports.
September Blog Report
I am really proud to tell you that we met a few milestones this month. My first 500 followers on facebook. My first 1000 followers on pinterest too. I had written last month that I wanted to start my newsletter soon. I wasn’t sure about when because right then, I had no subscribers. A few of you subscribed in the beginning but when I looked in recently, I saw that the numbers had grown so fast. Thank you. That you so much for trusting us and giving us so much love.
This month, while I was busy with our travelling, I had to neglect my blog totally. I had no posts saved and no updates anywhere but when I checked my stats a week later, I was pleasantly surprised that one of my posts had gone viral. A hat that I had made recently was featured at The Whoot. That post gave some of my older posts new exposure and another one went viral for the second time. God has been kind to us, I guess.
This month I had written 7 new posts. I also recently updated an old post and republished it. We had another playdough, a science experiment, a crochet hack to make braided hats when you have no crochet skills, a home and organisation plan that has worked for us and our homeschooling adventure with our two year old. We also made home made finger paint!
