Berg Make it Moov it
While we waited for me to finish writing the article on the internet, we got summer! We are having the holidays now… It started last Thursday and I will not be joking when I say that we have truly gone crazy! This post contains affiliate links. Two years ago, when I was expecting our third child, my son had his holidays. He was four and a half then and he was very interested in making things and riding them. He already had Lego and Gears like all little boys his age but it just wasn’t enough and he couldn’t ride them. He was making things out of cardboard boxes and pushing them around using whatever he had. He wanted something more challenging… something that would not only stimulate him, but give him more imagination and freedom. We went all over the city looking for ideas. My husband and I strongly believe that children should always be given toys that will educate them because entertainment will follow on its own.

We found this fantastic Berg USA MOOV Street Kit Riding Toy.
What is BERG Make it or Moov it?
It is a ‘build it, take it apart, build it again’ toy that your child can ride on the streets too. It comes with a set of real tyres, metal axle and rods, plastic tubes and wooden pieces that you can mix up and fit together with a bunch of rubber rings. No tools needed at all. Your child can build it and ride it in parks, on the street, in your parking lot or even on your driveway! If you don’t have much space, it can be built and wheeled around your living room too. We live in an apartment!
How old should my child be?
The toy is designed for use by children aged 5-12 years. My child was 4 and a half when we bought it and he needed a little help with it in building but once it was made he was riding and running and using his imagination to design bigger smarter ‘vehicles’. He is 6 now and builds it himself. It has taught him patience, increased his dexterity, taught him to plan, execute and imagine even wilder machines.
What can my child make with it?
The set contains two books with clear instructions on making the ten designs. The designs are for a crane, a bike, a trike, a scooter, helicopter, a snow sledge and a few others but, with a little imagination your child will most definitely making a lot of other things too.
Where in Jeddah can you buy it from?
We bought it from Fanateer Stationary. Read more about Toy Shops in Jeddah in this post.
How do I rate it?
I give it an 8 out of 10. I am a toy fanatic and there should be more toys that build on the child! My hopes when I bought it for my child was that it give him ambition to build machines… Berg got full marks for that. I wanted something that would make him independent, keep him occupied and dedicated at the same time. It does that in many ways. This past week, I reintroduced it again as his schools had closed for the summer, he was on it a record breaking 8hours! He had been almost begging me to give it to him for weeks and had traded in some of his favourites for it and I had anticipated that he would be stuck to it the day he got but, really, we were surprised by his passion that day.
Building those vehicles takes hard work. For a child that age, it needs strength and stamina too to work on joining those pieces together. I was hoping he would invite some friends over to help him build them with him but he was more interested in building it himself and then showing it off to them. Each project is 7-12 steps long and it takes some good amount of work both physically and mentally trying to understand what goes where and how to fit them well. Those rubber rings are sturdy too and sometimes rolling them on to fit in the right space takes a little effort if you have been working for too long. I like the fact that it taught my son that his energy is limited and that he needs to renew his energy (eat some lunch and snack too!) while he is working. He is still learning to understand that he can walk away if it gets too overwhelming. I am now trying to teach him to understand that he can continue the next day. It will still be there waiting as he has left it and he will have more energy and ideas for the project.
We have a routine for his day, thankfully, so he has no choice but to leave it and move on to other interesting items for the day like Computer time or Soccer. It was good that we could quickly switch from his normal school day routine to his holiday routine. Children, no matter their age, need routines with a clear timetable that makes them feel like they are in control of their time. Knowing what comes next helps them in being mentally prepared too. It also helps when you have sat down with them to build on that routine for them.
So 8/10 it is for BERG Make it Moov it. If you are interested or looking for a gift for your son, do consider this. Definitely, educational, entertaining and builds confidence.
