Paper crafts Origami crafts for kids 800x800

My daughter demanded that we make a frog for her teacher. Frog, because they are studying about Frogs. For the teacher because, well… you have to impress your teacher, right? So here is a fun little Origami Frog Craft for kids to try.

This month, we have been doing a lot of origami crafts. I am not sure if it is popular among preschoolers these days but my kids are crazy about paper crafts. This month alone, we have made a science project with just folded paper, a purse, a box, a Chinese man and lots of paper cups.

My children are multilingual. The kindergartners can read and write two languages but they speak two more. This origami frog craft was a perfect opportunity to practice these languages.

After making the frog, we cut out four shapes for the Pond Lily and wrote the word Frog in different languages. (Not seen here. ) The words we wrote are Frog, grenouille (french), ضفدع (Defdae in Arabic),  मेढक (Medak in Hindi) and مینڈک (Mendak in Urdu). It was a fun game. They learnt to recognize the languages and the words.

  2. Make a mountain fold as shown in picture.
  3. Bring the opposite side together as shown.
  4. Fold in the opposite end under the top folds.
  5. Cross out the top layers outwards to make legs as shown in picture.
  6. Turn over and add googly eyes or as we did use the disks from a puncher and draw dots on them.
  7. To make the water lily leaves, just cut out the shapes and using a dark pencil make the veins.
  8. Optional: You can write the word ‘frog’ in different languages to help your child remember the word on the lily leaves.

My daughter was very happy to take her frog to class the next day. We made it again and practiced the different words in different languages at home.
