Quick & Easy Make-up Guide Using Budget Friendly Products Plus Reviews
If you are like me, I am sure most of the time, you step out of the house with zero make up on or use just Kohl(I am a big fan of Kohl and always up for it!). But… it’s not always grocery shopping! You may be seeing a friend or a relative or you may just want to experiment with make-up and look good for your own sweet self. You wouldn’t want to look all decked up though. I am sharing a simple & easy make-up guide that can get you ready in just a few minutes.
Talking of make up, honestly, I wouldn’t want to purchase a product without checking its reviews; specially if they are high end, expensive ones. I am sure all of us do that. This make up post also includes the products that I use often, with their reviews. I hope this helps you with your make up routine. This routine is super simple using affordable products and aimed for beginners.
Quick and Easy Make Up Routine
Step 1: Toner
My makeup routine always starts with a toner. It takes away excess oil, reduces the appearance of pores and restores the skin’s pH balance. To avoid over drying use an alcohol free formula.
Olay Gentle Cleansers Refreshing Toner works well for me. It is an alcohol free formula so it is less harsh on the skin. I also really like the smell of it. It leaves your skin clean and fresh. This budget friendly toner is one of my favourite product from Olay.
How to apply:
Many people use it after removing the make-up to have a cleaner skin but I like to use it even before applying make-up. Dab enough toner onto a cotton ball and apply all over the face. I usually repeat it over the T-zone area where it tends to get oilier for me. Leave it out for a few seconds to dry.
Step 2: BB cream

Makeup has become so much easier since BB creams came out. It will never get old for me. It is like a lighter version of a foundation and can be used as a quick fix or when you are in no mood to apply layers of makeup. Some BB creams wouldn’t provide coverage like a foundation would but it saves your time and is very good for everyday use. I don’t bother applying moisturizer after the toner because the BB cream is just enough for moisturization. Pick a BB cream that matches your skin tone and skin type.
I use the Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream SPF 15 as my very first BB cream and it did well on my skin. It provides a medium coverage, enhances the skin tone and blurs out imperfections.
How to apply:
Squeeze out a some amount of cream on your finger and dot it all over your face (and neck if required). Use your fingers or a sponge to blend it out.
Step 3: Face powder
Needless to say, face powder has to be applied in order to set your makeup. Pressed/Compact or loose powder can be used. I personally prefer loose powder as it has finer & smaller particles and also feels light on the face. But when I need to be quick, I simply pop open my Maybelline 24hr Super Stay pressed powder which I really like. It does what it says in the description. It doesn’t get flakey on my skin, sets the make up and really does control shine.
How to apply:
Use a brush to apply the powder (yes, even the pressed one) as it gives proper coverage and easy to use. Dab the brush onto the powder and tap away the excess. Dust it all over the face.
Step 4: Eye pencil and Mascara
Liquid eyeliners are the best. They define the eyes so perfectly. Applying liquid eyeliner can be quite a task for beginners but with practice you can master it. You may want to just skip the eyeliner if you are in a hurry, though. I just apply the kohl liner to my lower lash line when I need to rush. Apply Mascara too for a polished looked.
There are so many eye pencils that I like so it is difficult to mention a favourite to write. Whatever brand you prefer, always choose the black color when you are not too sure because it goes well with everything.
How to apply:
There are so many ways to apply an eye liner/pencil. It can always be personalised with one’s style. I usually apply it to the lower lash line and darken it a bit towards the outer corner of the eye.
I will have to do a completely different and detailed post for eye liners. Let me know if you’d like that.
Step 5: Blush
Sometimes we end up wearing a lot more blush than required but not with Revlon line of powder blush. I love it because it is so natural and subtle. Doesn’t look like I am actually wearing a blush but gives a nice pink flush to the cheeks. It works great for me. This would not work for someone who wants a darker shade and pigmentation but nevertheless, it is very good for everyday use.
How to apply:
Smile! Then, dab on some blush powder with a good brush by starting from the apple of your cheeks towards the hairline making quick strokes along the cheek bone. You can give a quick sweep on the nose if you wish.
Step 6: Lip color
I feel there should be no rules for lip colors! It should simply be based on personal choice. I am sure everyone has their own favourite. There are a variety and “types” of lip colors available. Tinted lip balms, matte lipstick, semi-matte, sheer etc. My current favourite are the chubby sticks type(crayon type). One of them is the Revlon ColorBurst line of balm stains. I totally love them! As the name suggests, the lips are ‘”stained” and the color will not wear of easily though the shine may go away when you have lunch or dinner.
How to apply:
Apply directly to lips. For a more defined look, outline lips with a matching color lip liner. Then, fill in color with the lipstick.
There you go! All set to rock your look with this simple make-up routine!
Quick tip: Exfoliation is an important part of a skin care routine. It helps to get rid of the dead cells on the skin and any other traces of dirt or makeup so make sure you include this in your routine to for a healthy and fresh skin. This is my favourite type of exfoliation as it is 100% natural. Click here to know what it is.
